Timothy –
I am a big fan of Asics. I’ve been running in them off and on for 4+ years. I have tried the Cumulus 20-24, Kayano 27-29, GT 2000 9 and 10 and the Nimbus 22 and 23. I’ve always found size 11 wide to be my best fit in Asics.
I would say these fit true to size and on the long side for Asics. Long enough I considered exchanging them and sizing down 1/2 a size but I decided to just return these get the Kayano 29 instead.
I would say this is the closest equivalent to the Cumulus in the Asics stability lineup. It’s an excellent, fairly traditional trainer with moderate support, moderate cushion and not too stiff.
I do think the Kayano 29 is a slightly better shoe but it does cost more. At this price point, if you need the stability I would choose this, the GT 4000 3. The Kayano 28 is on sale but they were too stiff to my liking. The GT-2000 10 is also a good shoe, slightly lighter weight, similar stability, slightly older design.
If you need stability I’d suggest the Kayano 29. But if that’s too costly or too much stability go for these, but consider your sizing. If you don’t need the stability get the Cumulus 24.

I would recommend these over the current Gel Kayano. They both have medium-size heel cups, so they won’t accommodate all orthotics. These have a firmer forefoot than the Kayano, so it feels more stable on the ball of the feet. I feel like the forefoot cushioning in the Kayano is overkill. These are heavier than the Kayano.
Like the Kayano these are crazy stable at the heel through the mid. These would be a nice upgrade from the GT-1000 for most people, I think.
Now we just need ASICS to offer these in 4E. And ASICS, pick one of these shoes for overpronators and give it a wider heel to accommodate larger orthotics. (For now, we need the New Balance 940.)
